CPI(M) says Modi Govt targetting intellectuals; demands withdrawal of cases against Teltumbde

New Delhi, Jan 17 (UNI) Attacking the Narendra Modi government for targetting public intellectuals and activists, Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) on Thursday demanded withdrawal of cases filed against senior professor and author Anand Teltumbde in the Bhima Koregaon case.
“The vicious targetting by the Modi government and BJP state governments of intellectuals and activists, who support the cause of Dalit and oppressed communities, is intensifying”, the Left party’s polit bureau said in a statement.
It said that Mr Teltumbde has been falsely charged in this case when he was not even present
at the event.
Teltumbde is a senior Professor and author of many critically acclaimed books.
“Such attacks on those critical of its policies and activities and dissenting voices has happened earlier under the calumnious category of ‘Urban Naxals’, CPI(M) said.
It also pointed out that “respected octogenarian intellectual of Assam, Hiren Gogoi along with others have been booked on charges of sedition for opposing the Citizenship Amendment Bill”.
The CPI(M) said it condemning such harassment of public intellectuals and activists.
