Crime Branch ADGP to probe custodial death in Idukki dist

Kochi Crime Branch Additional Director General of Police will probe the custodial death of a person at Peerumedu sub-jail in Idukki district on June 21.

DGP Loknath Behra has directed the Crime Branch ADGP to investigate the case and submit the report with in 15 days, sources said here on Thursday.

A special team will be constituted and the Crime Branch IG of Kochi will review the case on day-to- day basis.

The decision to order probe was taken after a walkout in Assembly by the Opposition UDF members on Wednesday in protest against not allowing an adjournment motion by the Speaker on the custodial death.

The 49-year-old Rajkumar, an accused in a financial fraud, was kept in custody for 105 hours without following the proper procedures. The family of the victim, having links with the CPI (M), alleged that he was subjected to severe torture in the custody.
