Metropolitian Magistrate Harun Pratap Singh, on Thursday, remanded to 14-day judicial custody, 96 persons including Bhim army chief Chandrashekhar Azad, arrested in connection with the Ravidas Temple demolition case.
Located in a protected forest area at Tughlakabad in Delhi, the Temple was dedicated to the 15th century spiritual leader.
Delhi Development Authority asserted that the land belonged to the Government.
Justices Arun Mishra and MR Shah of the Supreme Court had directed the Governments of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi to ensure that no law and order problem is created politically or otherwise during the protests over the demolition of the Temple.
DDA had demolished the Temple on August 10 on the orders of the Supreme Court which upheld a Delhi High Court order.
Protests
Thousands of Dalits took to streets between Jhandewalan and Ramlila Maidan in central Delhi to protest on Wednesday against the demolition.
Traffic was affected in some parts of the Capital due to the protests. Bhim army plans to install a bust of Ravidas at the site of the demolished Temple.
Law enforcers at Govindpuri Police Station registered an FIR in this matter and after arresting the accused persons obtained their 14-days judicial custody.
The Delhi Assembly on Thursday approved a resolution demanding that the Centre should immediately bring an Ordinance to allot land for Ravidas Mandir, demolished by the DDA on the orders of the Supreme Court.
It sought construction of a ‘Magnificent Sant Ravidas Mandir’ at the same site after Centre allots the land.
The resolution, moved by Aam Aadmi Party MLA Vishesh Ravi, was carried by the House with majority.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the Centre should immediately pass an ordinance to give four-five acre land to Ravidas community for the Temple.
‘Another way to find a solution to the matter is that a review petition be filed by the Centre in the Court and all facts should be presented in the Court,’ the CM said.
‘The Centre can find solution to this matter. I urge all political parties to rise above politics. How the Temple will be constructed there, that is important’, he said.
‘Today, as CM, I want to assure that the Delhi Government will make a magnificent Ravidas Temple and no matter how much money is spent on the construction and I support the resolution,’ Mr Kejriwal said.
Two Bharatiya Janata Party lawmakers, Vijender Gupta and Om Prakash Sharma, were marshalled out on directions of Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel for disrupting Mr Kejriwal’s speech.
