Eight killed as boat capsizes in eastern Pakistan

Islamabad, Nov 18 (UNI) At least eight people were killed after a boat capsized in the Sutlej river in Pakistan’s eastern district of Okara on Monday, police said.

The incident took place when the people were crossing the river near the Malhu Sheikha area of the district, Xinhua reported.

According to the rescue officials, eight bodies have been fished out from the river, while search for the others was continued.

At the time of the accident, a total of 40 people were on board. The police said that the toll could rise as rescue efforts were underway for other missing people. So far, the cause of the accident has not been ascertained.

On getting the information, all district administrations and rescue teams rushed to the spot to carry out rescue operation. Locals also took part in the rescue and search operation.
