An old and injured elephant who was wandering in Angul and satkosia division for last two months died on Monday at Jakub under Satkosia wildlife division without proper treatment.
The forest department officials claimed that the animal died due to old age but the local people alleged that the elephant sustained deep injury in the fighting and died in the absence of proper treatment.
The injured elephant first was seen in Angul forest division two months ago. The forest people drove the animal into Satkosia division where it was staying for last one month.
The elephant was having multiple injuries all over his body.
It was indicating that he sustained the injuries due to fight with any tusker going by the nature of the injuries. Due to old age and being injured the animal was moving here and there.
The elephant succumbed to the injuries yesterday when treatment was going on by local doctors with antibiotics and other medicines but that did not work, a forest official of satkoshia forest division said, adding that the post mortem was conducted as per the rule.
