European Union Film Festival begins from July 4

Film lovers will be in for one of their annual movie treats which begin here from July 4, 2019. The Cinephile Film Club of the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) in collaboration with The European External Action Service (EEAS), Directorate of Film Festival and Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is organizing 24th European Union Film Festival.

The festival will be inaugurated at the hands of Daulat Hawaldar, Finance Secretary, Government of Goa, in the presence of Raimund Magis- Deputy Head of EEAS.

The festival which would be held from July 4 to 18, 2019, would be a bonanza of films from all over Europe. The movies will be screened at Auditorium 1, Maquinez Palace, ESG Complex, Panaji. This festival is open to public and the seating availability would be on a first come first serve basis. A total of 23 films will be screened over a period of 15 days. To make it convenient for the general public, the films will be screened at 1730 hrs and 1930 hrs.

The opening film Diamantino is from Portugal and the film has won several laurels including two awards at the Cannes film festival in 2018. Directed by Gabriel Abrantes and Daniel Schmidt, the story is about a footballer hence there couldn’t have been a better opening film for the Goa edition of the EUFF.

Several internationally acclaimed films like Styx (2018) from Austria which won the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at Berlin, King of the Belgians (2016) from Belgium, the French film Hope, Bubblegum from Bulgaria will be screened.
