Five NDRF personnel rescued from being washed away in flood water

Five personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), who were caught in the middle of gushing Flood waters in the Tungabhadra river, were rescued by another team on Monday.

According to official sources, the victims were supposed to rescue people stranded in the Virupagadde, a tiny island in the Tungabhadra river, but were caught in the middle as their boat developed snag and struck in the middle of the flood water.

The standby rescue team immediately swung into action and saved them after struggling for few hours, the sources said. The members who had washed away in the swirling water, however were wearing life saving jacket and had sailed down for over half-a-kilometer in the gushing water, before being rescued by their colleagues.

The rescue operations of those who were stranded in the Virupapuragadde, was suspended for some time and resumed later and all the stranded were rescued.
