Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on the occasion of Rakshabandhan announced free travel for women in Delhi Transport Corporation and cluster buses in the city from October 29.
The Chief Minister further said that the move will add to ensuring safety of women in the capital.
Kejriwal made the announcement during his address at the Chatrasal Stadium on the occasion of 73rd Independence Day and the festival of Rakshabandhan.
He said that on the day of Rakshabandhan, it is a ‘gift’ to the sisters.
”This step will prove to be important towards the respect ,safety, empowerment and to in the direction of shaping their dreams”, the Delhi CM said taking to twitter.
Earlier, the Chief Minister had said during June that government has planned to provide free rides to women on Delhi Metro with the the intention to enhance women security. (UNI)
