Amaravati: Continuing with the trend of high numbers of COVID-19 cases this week, Andhra Pradesh reported 141 positive cases on Friday. It was exactly a week ago, on Saturday, that Andhra Pradesh had reported its highest single-day count of 161 cases.
From 4,261 cases on Thursday, Andhra Pradesh’s cumulative tally of COVID-19 cases shot up to 4,402 on Friday. The tally of active cases in the state has also climbed to 1,723 from Thursday’s figure of 1,641 active cases, the state nodal officer reported.
No deaths were reported in the 24 hours ending 9 a.m. Friday and as a result the death toll in Andhra Pradesh remained 80 on Friday. The state’s mortality rate slipped to 1.42 per cent from the previous day’s 1.47 per cent. It currently ranks 12th among the states of India, according to the figures issued by the Andhra Pradesh government on Thursday. In comparison, India’s mortality rate currently stands at 2.86 per cent.
On Friday, 59 persons were discharged from hospitals, raising the cumulative tally of the cured persons in the state to 2,599 from the overnight figure of 2,540. The state’s recovery rate improved marginally to 54.87 on Friday, from the previous day’s 54.67 percent. Andhra Pradesh ranks ninth on the recovery parameter, among the states of the country. The national average for recovery last stood at 49.47 (49.21) on Thursday.
In comparison to 15,384 samples on Thursday, 11,775 tests were conducted in the 24 hours ending 9 a.m., Friday, the state nodal officer reported. Andhra Pradesh has tested 5,22,093 samples till Thursday, lagging only behind Rajasthan with 5,58,064, Maharashtra with 6,10,790, and Tamil Nadu with 6,55,675 tests conducted so far. In all, India has conducted 53,63,445 tests till Friday.
Meanwhile, the cumulative tally of COVID-19 cases among returnees from other states further rose to 1,035 from the Thursday figure of 971 cases. The tally of active cases remained unchanged 564 on Friday. On Friday, 64 persons belonging to this category were discharged from the hospitals after being cured. On Friday, two new cases were detected among the foreign returnees, following which, the cumulative tally climbed to 199. The number of active cases in this category was 178 on Friday.
