Govt sacks 15 income tax officials involved in corruption

New Delhi, Sep 27 (UNI) In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pledge to go after the “black sheep” in the tax department, the government on Friday sacked 15 income tax officials after they were found involved in the case of corruption and other charges. It was the fourth round of weeding out the corrupt officials. In the last three rounds, 49 high-ranking tax officers including 12 officers from the Central Board of Direct Taxes were compulsorily retired under the Fundamental Rule that empowers the government to evict non-performers from the government.  The sacking of personnel who were involved in graft cases began on June 10 with the dismissal of a dozen income-tax officers. In the next round of the clean-up exercise, 15 indirect tax officials were forced to resign. In the third round 22 more officials were handed over the pink slips.
