Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday rejected the parole plea of self style godman Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh, convicted for rape and murder.
The plea was filed by his wife Harjeet Kaur, seeking three-week parole to look after his ailing mother. The plea stated that Naseeb Kaur (85), mother of Ram Rahim, was suffering from a heart ailment and needed to undergo an angiography. The petition said the mother had expressed desire that her only son Gurmit Ram Rahim be present to attend to her.
Ram Rahim is lodged in Rohtak jail for raping two of his followers and murder of a journalist. He had been sentenced to imprisonment for two terms of 10 years in the rape case and life imprisonment in the murder case. (UNI)
