I- Day celebrations: Modi again shuns bullet proof enclosure

PM announces creation of post of Chief of Defence Staff, bats for digital payment

Continuing with his fearless stance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the sixth year in a row, Prime chose to deliver his Independence Day address from an open air podium without any bullet proof glass.

Besides objections from security detail, Mr Modi had kept away the idea of bullet-proof enclosure to “connect directly” with people beginning with his maiden Independence Day address as the PM from Red Fort in 2014.

Last year too, Mr Modi delivered his speech without the enclosure.

Meanwhile, multi-layered security arrangements were put in place at and around the Red Fort to thwart any kind of security threat.

Security personnel had secured the roof tops of the buildings facing the iconic Red Fort while Facial recognition technology was also used to identify suspects.

Snipers and specialised commando units of the Central Armed Police Forces along with SPG and NSG stood guard while during the national festivities.
