IMA to organise awareness programme for eliminating TB

Indian Medical Association(IMA) will be organising a mass awareness program on the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day, 2019, today, to highlight the steps required to end the disease.  The program aims to increase awareness about the dreaded disease among the public and the

ways to curb down the instances and related mortality and morbidity by 2025. IMA’s slogan for this event will be ‘IMA Ka Naara, TB se Chutkara’.

‘The awareness program will be carried out in all the 1750 branches of IMA throughout India. Sensitising the public through such events will be a step closer towards eliminating TB from the country,’ a statement said. The highlights of the event will include ‘Nukkad Natak’ based on tuberculosis theme.

Training sessions will be imparted to many NGO’s present on the occasion. Over 500 students, NGO workers and healthcare workers are expected to participate. The World Tuberculosis Day is observed on March 24 every year to commemorate the anniversary of  Dr Robert Koch’s discovery of the Tuberculosis (TB) bacteria in 1882.
