India's UN Mission pays unique homage to Sushma Swaraj

New York, Aug 7 (UNI) The Indian government office at the United Nations on Wednesday paid unique tribute to former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, who expired on Tuesday night in Delhi. Leaving behind indelible memories. We @IndiaUNNewYork  will always cherish memories of her UN visit. Farewell Madam,” tweeted Syed Akbaruddin, India’s permanent representative at the United Nations. He also tagged a video wherein Late Sushma Swaraj addresses the UN General Assembly.

In her speech, which got overwhelming appreciation, Late Swaraj talks about UN making use of the ‘powerful weapon of non violence’ to protect the rights and self esteem of the ‘colonized and oppressed’. The video also has clipping of her speech made on June 20, 2015 on International Yoga Day where she talks about India’s gift of the “ancient treasure” to the world. There are also powerful words on terror menace – where Late Swaraj is heard saying: “We must accept this fact as a first principle that terrorism is the greatest of all violations of human rights”.

The 67-year-old Swaraj expired in Delhi last night following cardiac arrest.
