KIIT gets letter of intent for Institute of Eminence tag

The Ministry of Human Resource Development has issued Letter of Intent (LoI) for ‘Institution of Eminence’ (IoE) tag to KIIT Deemed to be University.

Disclosing this at a news conference here today, KIIT and KISS founder Dr. Achyuta Samanta said KIIT Deemed to be University is the youngest University of India to get this prestigious tag. He said, an Empowered Expert Committee (EEC) under the chairmanship of N Gopalaswami, former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and five other members selected 10 public and 10 private institutions based on their presentation and recommended to the University Grants Commission (UGC).

In this process, only 3 public and 3 private institutes were conferred IoE in the first phase. Later, it was examined by the UGC and the Expert Committee and finally 5 institutes each from public and private sectors were selected for the ‘Institute of Eminence’ tag.

Dr Samant said, among five private institutes selected, KIIT Deemed to be University is the only institution from Odisha get the ‘Institute of Eminence’ status.

He said, KIIT is just 22 years old as an institution for professional education and 15 years old as a University. It was founded in 1992-93 as a vocational training centre from rented premises with a seed capital of only Rs. 5,000 and secured an impressive position in various global university ranking despite being a very young university.
Dr. Samant thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking the initiative to develop some prominent Indian higher education institutions into world-class institutes. He also expressed his gratitude to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for his support to the KIIT university.

Dr. Samant said over one thousand foreign students from as many as 53 countries are now studying in the KIIT to be Deemed University which has not only provided the quality education but also emerged as best in the sports activities. University Vice Chancellor Professor Hrushikesh Mohanty and Registrar Sashmitarani Samant said, it is a matter of pride that KIIT to be deemed university has been chosen as Institute of Eminence by the ministry of Human Resource Development.

Prof Mohanty said, it will be a great responsibility for KIIT and “we will gear up to rise to the occasion and focus more on multi disciplinary research facilities.”(UNI)
