The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday fielded a transgender candidate from Prayagraj Lok seat in Uttar Pradesh for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
The names were announced by AAP’s senior leader Sanjay Singh in New Delhi.
”Every voice matters! Transgender Chirpi Bhawani will be our candidate for the upcoming loksabha elections from Prayagraj. Lets make an India where this isn’t an exception but a daily norm. #LoksabhaElections2019,” the AAP said in a tweet.
A statement by Chirpi Bhawani, retweeted by AAP, said,”being transgender we suffered a lot. BJP has treated us like beggars. But it was Arvind Kejriwal and his party who fought for our rights. AAP stood with us when no one else did. AAP is a progressive party in true sense.”
The party has also fielded Dr A.P.J Abdul Kalam award winner Dinesh Mahato from Jamshedpur as it’s Lok Sabha candidate.
