The CPI (M) Politburo member and former Chief Minister of Tripura Manik Sarkar accused 16-month-old BJP-IPFT government in the state of its failure to keep promises made before assembly elections.
While addressing party supporters in election rallies of three-tire panchayat election in three villages of Kailashahar in North Tripura, yesterday, Sarkar alleged that the sufferings of the common people became multiple under Biplab Kumar Deb’s rule. The rural economy has been destroyed and scope of employment is reduced.
“Before election they made commitment to hike the wages of MGNREGS to Rs 340 and rate of monthly social pension to Rs 2000. They had said the state would witness sea change in terms of development, if the same party ruled both the Centre and the state. They termed it as double engine growth but now it appears BJP cheated the people and the so called double growth engine became seems a far cry,” Sarkar alleged.
He further alleged that after new government came in power in the name scrutiny the disbursement of social pension has largely been discontinued that affected the life of the poor people and marginalized section.
“The political violence has scripted history in Tripura under BJP rule. The social crime has been increased that disrupted social peace and harmony. None of the democratic institution could function because opposition parties are prevented to participate in the election and governance,” Sarkar pointed out.
He urged the people to come together to protest against the authoritarian functioning of the government and restore democratic peaceful environment in Tripura. (UNI)
