The meteorology department here today warned that an intense heat wave condition will sweep nine districts of Odisha for the next three days.
As per the warning issued by the local weather office heat wave conditions will prevail in the districts of Jharsuguda, Baragarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi and Malkangiri districts from April 28 to 30.
The maximum day temperature is likely to rise by 2 to 3 degree Celsius during the next three days.
The weather office also predicted that thunderstom accompanied by lightning is likely to hit Keonjhar, Mayurbhanja, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati and Ganjam districts today.
As many as 11 cities registered a maximum day temperature above 40 degree Celsius today.
Titilagarha is the hottest place in the state with a maximum day temperature of 44 degree Celsius followed by Bolangir (43),Jharsuguda (42.2), Bhawanipatna, Malkangiri, Sonepur (42 each), Sambalpur (41.9),Hirakud (41.5), Anugul (41.1) Sundergarha (40.5)and Phulbani (40.2).
The twin city of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack registered a temperature of 38 and 39 degree Celsius respectively today.
At least three other cities in the state registered temperature close to 40 degree Celsius.
While, Keonjhargarha registered a temperature of 39.7 degree Celsius, Chandbali and Koraput recorded a maximum day temperature of 39 degree Celsius each today
