Modi slams Congress for politicizing Jallianwala Bagh anniversary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday slammed the Congress party for politicizing 100 years of Jallianwala Bagh anniversary as the Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh skipped the function attended by the Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu at Amritsar on Saturday.

“The whole nation remembered the martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh on its 100th anniversary on Saturday but the Congress politicized it,” said Mr Modi while addressing an election rally here in support of BJP candidate from Doda-Udhampur Lok Sabha Parliamentary Constituency, Dr Jitendra Singh, who is also MoS in PMO.

“The Vice President, who has nothing to do with political functions, visited to Jallianwala Bagh to pay tributes to martyrs but Congress CM boycott the programme because he was busy in ‘family bhakti’ of Congress,” said the Prime Minister.

Mr Modi said, “This is the difference between ‘nation bhakti’ and ‘family bhakti’,” and added, “I personally know Punjab CM Amrinder Singh since long and I can understand his compulsion and the pressure he might have faced to keep himself away from the function.”

“Was it not disrespect to the martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh?” he questions and said, “I want to ask them (Congress), why they get upset on hearing about Surgical strike and Air Strike.”

“Congress never trusted our security forces and army. They doubted their courage and never promoted them in their rule but instead stopped them to act strongly on borders,” he said and added that Congress always used Armed Forces for generating personal income.

Either Bofors Submarines or Helicopters, they only minted money but have no respect for them, he said and added that for vote bank politics, Congress did no justice to the people since decades.

“The country must understand the wrong policies of the Congress party and stay alert,” he said and added that time is completely different now.

“This is new India. We will enter into the territories of the terrorists and kill them,” the Prime Minister said.

The Doda-Udhampur Lok Sabha Parliamentary Constituency will go to poll in the second phase on April 18.  (UNI)
