Modi visits Jaitley’s family to offer condolences

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday visited the family of former Union minister Arun Jaitley at his residence here and offered floral tributes at the portrait of the departed leader.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived at Jaitley’s residence earlier and received the Prime Minister along with Rohan Jaitley, son of former Finance minister. Other family members, including Jaitley’s wife Sangeeta and daughter, were present.  Modi spoke to the family and spent about 20-25 minutes there.

Modi was on a three-nation tour when the senior BJP leader passed away. He had spoken with Jaitley’s family on Saturday. Addressing a gathering in Bahrain, an emotional Prime Minister had said, ‘I cannot imagine that I am here in Bahrain, while my dear friend Arun is no more. Some days ago, we lost our former External Affairs Minister behen Sushmaji (Swaraj). Today, my dear friend Arun went away.’

After his death, Jaitley’s family had requested Prime Minister Modi to continue his three-nation visit to France, UAE and Bahrain as planned. Modi returned to India this morning.

The 66-year-old Jaitley had passed away after prolonged illness at Delhi’s AIIMS hospital on August 24.
