Mortal remains of Sushma Swaraj brought to BJP headquarters

Mortal remains of former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj was brought from her home to BJP headquarters for people to pay their respects on Wednesday.
BJP president Amit Shah draped the national flag on the body of the departed leader.

Among others, party working president J P Nadda, party leaders Dr Harsh Vardhan, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Manoj Sinha, Bengal chief Rahul Sinha, Sakshi Maharaj and Jaya Prada were present. Party workers and admirers of the most loved leader were seen wailing at the party headquarters here.

One woman party worker from Awadh region said,’I never met Sushma, but I got inspiration from her speeches and to me she was an embodiment of women empowerment.’

The Delhi government has declared a two-day state mourning as a mark of respect in the memory of former Delhi Chief Minister Sushma Swaraj, who passed away on Tuesday night following massive cardiac arrest here.

Expressing condolence over her demise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, ‘A glorious chapter in Indian politics comes to an end. India grieves the demise of a remarkable leader who devoted her life to public service and bettering lives of the poor.’ ‘Sushma Swaraj Ji was one of her kind, who was a source of inspiration for crores of people.

Sushma Ji was a prolific orator and outstanding Parliamentarian. She was admired and revered across party lines. She was uncompromising when it came to matters of ideology and interests of the BJP, whose growth she immensely contributed to,’ he said. At 1500 hrs, her mortal remains will be taken to Lodhi Road crematorium, where her last rites will be performed with full state honours.

Swaraj served as the Minister of External Affairs of India from May 26 , 2014 to May 30 , 2019. She was elected seven times as a Member of Parliament and three times as a member of the Legislative Assembly.
