NIA arrests accused Shaibu Nihar in ISIS Wandoor case

The National Investigation Agency on Tuesday arrested ISIS Wandoor case accused Shaibu Nihar alias Shaibu at Calicut airport soon after his arrival from Doha in Qatar. The accused Nihar is a resident of Kozhikode in Kerala.
The case was originally registered at Wandoor Police Station under various sections of IPC and Unlawful Activity(Prevention) Act on November 6,2017 on the basis of disclosures made by an accused Hamsa UK, who was arrested and examined at Valapattanam Police Station.
NIA took over the case and during its investigation it revealed that the disclosure made by Hamsa UK had allegations against Shaibu Nihar and other accused persons that while they were working in Bahrain and attending classes at Al Ansar Salafi Centre, there they had shared jihadi ideology and decided to join Isamic state of Syria and Iraq (ISIS) in Syria. Most of his associates had left Bahrain and joined ISIS in Syria.

According to NIA, the accused Shaibu Nihar had planned to travel to Syria to join the proscribed terrorist organisation ISIS in December, 2016 from Bahrain while running an advertising company there.
During 2016-2017, he had facilitated travel of some of his associates to Syria with the intention of joining ISIS and waging war on its behalf against Syrian Government.

Following the arrest of some of his associates in October, 2017, Shaibu Nihar had shifted from Bahrain and taken shelter in Qatar and ran his advertising business there also.
Accused Nihar was produced before the Special Court for NIA Cases at Ernakulam on April 9 and was remanded to judicial custody up to April 22.
