Nirmala criticises Congress for their security report

Lashing out at the Congress on Monday, the BJP said whether they want the government to compromise country’s territory and negotiate with the neighbouring country even as terror continues.

‘Do they (Congress) want us to be the victim of terror and violence? It’s for the Party to clarify Chidambaram’s statement on Pakistan,’ said Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at a press conference here. Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram has said on Sunday that in order to bring a change in Pakistan’s behaviour, India must also change its behaviour towards the neighbouring country.

The Congress has released its report on national security which has been prepared by a taskforce headed by Lt Gen D S Hooda (Retd).

‘P Chidambaram recently made a statement that in order to change Pakistan’s behaviour, we must also change. Do they want us to compromise our territory…do they want us to negotiate even as terror continues?’ the Defence Minister said.

‘There is a unanimous resolution in Parliament….Should we not stop terrorists,’ she said, adding that Congress manifesto favours terrorists as it calls for removing AFSPA and Sedition law.

The position taken by Congress in its manifesto did not get public support and there was a lot of criticism, Sitharaman said.

In this context if Chidambaram says that in order to bring a change in Pakistan’s behaviour, India must also change its behaviour towards the neighbouring country then the Congress should clarify what is meant by that, she said.
