Itanagar: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday promised to make all the northeastern states “problem free” before the 2024 general elections.
Addressing a gathering here on the occasion of 34th Statehood Day of Arunachal Pradesh, Shah said that there would be no existence of any dispute or contention in the region when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would approach people to vote for them in the Lok Sabha elections.
He said that the Central government is committed to solve all the problem in northeast like disputes among the states, boundary clash, issues related to tribes, terrorism and many more.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants the whole northeast problem free. We would come in front of you with a problem-free northeast while seeking blessings of citizens here after five years during general elections in 2024,” Shah said.
The Home Minister assured that there would have been the beginning of a new and golden future of northeast when his party would approach the people for votes.
The BJP almost doubled its parliamentary seat count in the northeast in the last Lok Sabha elections in 2019 over 2014 as the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) bagged 17 of the total 25 seats in the region.
The NDA had 10 seats, eight of them by the BJP, from the eight northeastern states in 2014.
The BJP bagged all the four seats in Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura and one of the two constituencies in Manipur. The party virtually painted Assam saffron by winning nine of the 10 of the state’s total 14 seats it had contested, leaving four for two allies that failed to win any.
By winning a total of 14 seats from four states, the BJP gained six seats over its 2014 tally.
