Shimla, Nov 11 (UNI) The shortage of onion supplies after the Monsoon season in the country might not last any longer as top Agriculture researchers find the possibility of an additional method of onion production round the year with alternative farming.
People of the country are currently forced to pay exorbitant prices of Onion and Garlic because of the scarcity of production followed by the conventional seasonal farming.
Recent study being done by the Indian scientists coined an advance technique and research likely to end the shortage of Onion for the need of the large population.
Inspired by the method of farmers of Maharashtra, who are practicing three crops of onion in a year, the major off-seasonal vegetable producers of the Himachal region mainly Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are all set to experiment the new way.
Presently farmers cultivate one crop of Onion in a year will take five to six months to complete the harvest.
Its nursery are sown in the month of October or November which transplanted or sown in the field in November or December. The crop being harvested in the month of May and June.
During the harvest, green onion can be sell in the market or could be stored for some time after the complete harvest or may be sell in the open market with increasing demand after few months later.
Unfortunately, it is not getting good prices in the Summer as the production increases across the northern region at a time.
