The oil marketing companies (OMC) have identified over 10,000 Ujjwala Didis who will act as grass root energy ambassadors all over Odisha.
CGM, SLC, Oil Industry, Odisha Subhajit Ghosh told media here that Ujjwala Didis will act as the bridge between existing & prospective LPG consumers and the distributors.
Their positive intervention into the rural domestic energy eco system and distribution network help all in ease of booking for refill, issuance of new connections and sustainable use of energy.
Mr Ghosh said Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have come up with the concept of Ujjwala Didis to put in place a framework which shall lead to the desired effect in the socio-economic spheres of the beneficiaries on a long term basis.
Ujjwala Didis are rural women beneficiaries, identified from Pradhan Mantri Ujawala Yoajana (PMUY) beneficiaries, who understand the rural socio-economic milieu and energy needs of the rural households.
They analyse the deep impact the changing energy landscape can make in the day to day life of rural
women and their household.
Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is scheduled to address the Ujawala Didis here tomorrow on all aspects of the rural energy ecosystem.
The PMUY was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 1, 2016 and in Odisha the scheme was launched on June 20, 2016.
Since the launching of the scheme more than 6.5 crore LPG connections have been given countrywide to the economically poorer sections of the society by now.
In Odisha the number of LPG households went up from 20 lakh in June’2014 to almost 78 lakh in February’2019.
Mr Ghosh said the overall LPG penetration in Odisha has gone up to 73 per cent from a meager 20 per cent in June’2014.
PMUY has successfully ushered in a clean kitchen fuel revolution in rural areas of the country and the state and the rural women are now slowly becoming masters of their own destiny – by virtue of better health, better time management and possibilities of earning by using spare time .
The next logical step is to put in place a framework which shall lead to the desired effect in the socio-economic spheres of the beneficiaries on a long term basis. (UNI)
