In the wake of Pulwama terror attack, which claimed lives of 40 CRPF jawans, and the IAF attacking terror camps in Pakistan, leaders of opposition parties will meet here on Wednesday.
The meeting, which will be held in Parliament Library building at 1300 hrs, will discuss the aftermath of the attack and chalk out plans to counter Narendra Modi-led NDA government from using it in the coming Lok Sabha elections.
In the last meeting held on February 13, at former Union Minister Sharad Pawar’s residence, leaders of opposition parties, including Congress president Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal discussed and decided to meet on February 27 to finalise the future course of action.
The February 27 meeting was called to discuss the possibilities of forming a pre-poll at the national level and decide about the draft Common Minimum Programme among the opposition parties.
However, the terrorist attack at Pulwama on February 14 and the Indian Air Force pre-dawn strike on terror camps in Pakistan on Tuesday has changed the narrative.
The Left parties also will participate in today’s meeting as the agenda of the gathering has changed.
Earlier reports had maintained that the Left parties would stay away from the meeting as they had stressed that they will not be part of the pre-poll alliance at the national level.
The meeting, according to senior opposition leaders, will deliberate on formalising the strategies to counter the Modi-led narrative on nationalism and Pakistan, and to make subjects such as unemployment, agrarian crisis and Rafale crisis as poll issues.
According to sources, though, the main agenda of the meeting will be the current situation in the country after the Pulwama attack, it will discuss the Common Minimum Programme, which the last meeting had entrusted the Congress president to prepare the draft, for the opposition parties. (UNI)
