An amount of more than Rs.51 crore is required to complete the artificial lake project being constructed on River Tawi in Jammu, an official said.
Briefing Jammu Municipal Corporation mayor Chander Mohan Gupta on developmental projects being carried out in this winter capital of the state in a meeting on Tuesday, a senior official of PHE and flood irrigation said that the work for construction of auto mechanically operated barrage at cross river Tawi 1 km downstream main Tawi bridge for creation of an artificial lake at Belicharana, Jammu was allotted to G.R. Infra Projects Limited.
”Despite the agreement, the firm did not complete the allotted work and intentionally delayed on one pretext or other thus causing huge loss to the state exchequer”, he added.
The official said that notices were served to the firm but the contractor did not take up the work and ultimately the contract was canceled, adding, ”now after the intervention of the governor, a revised detailed project report was framed”.
”An amount of Rs.51.57 crore shall be required to complete the project and Rs.4.97 crore will be required to restore the damages suffered due to floods till date”, he asserted saying that the cost shall be finalized after inputs of designed aspect by IIT Roorkee.
Meanwhile, Gupta assured to take up the matter with governor Satya Pal Malik so that the DPR could be approved from the finance department at the earliest and work taken up as soon as possible so that tourism in Jammu region got the much needed boost. (UNI)
