In a veiled attack on Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that India is fighting against against those who perpetrate terrorism in the world.
“India will continue to work hard and play its role so that those who export terrorism are exposed,” Prime Minister said addressing the nation on the 73rd Independence Day from the ramparts of the Red Fort.
“Today terrorism directed fear of death haunting the entire world. India will not remain silent spectator,” he said without naming Pakistan.
“Some people have endangered not only India but also our neighbouring countries like Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. In Sri Lanka hundreds of innocent people were killed in the blast in the churches there. Therefore, when we fight against terrorism, we also fight for peace in our neighborhood”, he said.
Prime Minister said all countries in the world need to come together to fight this menace. “Peace and security are two important aspects of the development. Different parts of the world are struggling with conflicts and security crisis,” he said.
“From the ramparts of the Red Fort, I give my greetings to the people of Afghanistan who are marking 100 years of freedom,” he said while describing Afghanistan as a friend of India.
In his sixth Independence Day speech since 2014 and the first after assuming power for the second term after a massive electoral win, Prime Minister said the period between 2014 and 2019 was about fulfilling people’s needs. “Now is the time to meet their aspirations and dreams,” he said.
Prime Minister said the country should now give focus on pushing ‘Made In India’ products.
“We need to accept local products for a ‘lucky tomorrow’,” he said. Prime Minister said abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir has heralded a completely new era after seven decades since Independence.
The country is now rejoicing ‘One Nation – One Constitution’.
The Goods and Services Tax initiative unveiled by his government in 2017 brought to life the dream of ‘One Nation, One Tax’. In the same spirit, he said it is high time there is a national debate on the need for simultaneous polls across the country under the proposed move for ‘One nation One Election’ initiative.
The Prime Minister said his government has taken several key steps since coming to power less than 70 days and cited the law enacted against instant Triple Talaq and making stringent provisions on sexual crimes against children.
