Amid fanfare multi-lingual actor turned social activist Prakash Raj (Prakash Rai) and former prime minister H D Devegowda’s grandson Prajwal Revanna filed their nomination papers from Bengaluru Central and Hassan segments in Karnataka, respectively on Friday.
Prakash Raj, who has turned a harsh critic of prime minister Narendra Modi and the BJP filed his nomination papers in the BBMP office in the city as independent candidate.
He came along with members of Prakash Raj Foundation with much fanfare as focklore dancers in different attire danced their way to the BBMP office.
Speaking to reporters he said Bengaluru central voters had a big responsibility on their hand. It is time to defeat the Narendra Modi government. Even if there is a death in a family they don’t stop chanting the name of Modi. Such attitude should end. The Lok Sabha elections should become national festival.
He said victory or loss was not important for him. People should vote looking at the candidates and not political parties. They should assess what work an elected candidate had done for them previously.
‘’I am an actor, writer, social activist and thinker. I dont have a need to pay cash to get votes. I don’t believe bringing people in bus and lorries to drum up support for me. Aam Admi Party, various social organisations, women organisations, Autorickshaw drivers support me. There is no need for me to bring cinema stars either to get votes,’’ he said.
Meanwhile, Prajwal Revanna, son of PWD minister H D Revanna filed his papers as JD(S) candidate from Hassan Lok Sabha constituency today.
He is the first grandson of Mr Gowda and became the third generation person to enter politics from the family.
He is a coalition candidate facing former minister A Manju, who recently quit Congress and joined the BJP.
Chief minister H D Kumraswamy, Mr Revanna and his wife Ms Bavani and the Congress MLC, Gopalaswamy,
accompanied the Prajwal to the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
The Hassan lok sabha was represented by Mr Gowda for five times and strong baston of JD(S).
Before filing nomination papers Prajwal visited the temples in Holenarsipur, Haradanahalli and Mavinakere and even signed the papers in the temple itself before coming in a grand to DC office accompanied by party workers. (UNI)
