The protest by Gujjars in Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhopur district, demanding five per cent reservation for the community, entered third day on Sunday, affecting train movement on Delhi-Mumbai line.
The agitators gathered at the tracks between Malarna and Nimoda railway stations, affecting the Delhi-Mumbai rail route.
In Nainwan of Bundi district, the National Highway 148 was blocked due to the demonstrations, affecting traffic movement.
Locals in Karauli district’s Gudla blocked road in support of the ongoing reservation movement.
Gujjars have started gathering at Ajmer and at Devnarayan temple, where a mahapanchayat was called to make a strategy for blocking the nearby highway.
Dozens of trains on the Delhi-Mumbai rail route have been diverted, while few stands cancelled.
Railways have issued a helpline to provide information to the commuters about the trains’ movement.
Gujjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla said, ‘We will not leave tracks till the demand for five per cent reservation for Gujjars is fulfilled.’
Interacting with media, Mr Bainsla said talks with Rajasthan Minister Bina Masude did not yield any result.
On Saturday, Rajsthan Tourism Minister Vishvendra Singh met protesters and spoke to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot in relation to the agitation.
Second round of talks with the agitators is likely to be held today.
Section 144 CrPC has been clamped in Malarna and nearby areas.
Security has been tightened in the areas where protests are expected to intensify.
