Rajeev Kumar, former city police chief, today moved Calcutta High Court seeking squashing of a notice issued by the central investigating agency CBI in connection with the alleged suppression of the Saradha chit fund scam probe.
The CBI had sent a notice to Kumar to asking him to appear before it for assisting the investigation into the multi-score scam. Justice Pratik Prakash Banerjee granted leave to Kumar’s counsel for filing a petition before the court. The case is likely to be heard in the second half of the proceedings.
Besides issuing summons, on Saturday, the CBI had issued a lookout notice against Mr Kumar and directed all airports and immigration authorities to alert the agency if they spot him leaving the country.
Kumar was heading the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of West Bengal Police before the CBI took over the case on a direction of the Apex Court.
The state government recently reinstated Kumar, who was removed by the poll panel as additional director general of the state-run Criminal Investigating Agency (CID).
The Apex Court had last week dismissed Kumar’s plea seeking extension from arrest in the chit-fund scam case. (UNI)
