Rebel Congress and the JD(S) MLAs, who were disqualified from the membership of the Karnataka Assembly by former Speaker Ramesh Kumar filed their petition against the order in the Supreme Court seeking quashing of the order on Thursday.
According to sources, the 14 rebel MLAs, including three from the JD(S) had knocked the doors of the Supreme Court on Thursday, seeking quashing of the Speaker’s order of disqualifying them from the Assembly.
The MLAs, who had approached the Apex Court are, H Vishwanath, K Gopalaiah, Narayana Gowda (all JD-S), B C Patil, Pratapa Gouda Patil, K Sudhakar, M T B Nagaraj, S T Somashekhar, Byrathi Basavaraj, Munirathna, Srimanth Patil, Anand Singh and R Shankar.
Two other rebel MLAs, including Ramesh Jarakiholi and Mahesh Kumatalli, who were disqualified from the Assembly, prior to other 15 MLAs, had already filed petition in the Supreme Court.
The KPCC president Dinesh Gundurao had said that the party had filed a caveat before the Supreme Court seeking to hear its version before passing any order over the issue.
It may be recalled that following the resignations of as many as 16 rebel MLAs, the strength of the Karnataka Assembly was reduced to 208, and enabled the main Opposition BJP to attain majority and formed the Government in Karnataka caused the collapse of the 14-month-old JD(S)-Congress coalition government.
Speaking to newsmen, after filing the petition in the Supreme Court, the rebel MLA, H Vishwanath expressed confidence to get justice in the Supreme Court against the Speaker’s order.
