A Congress delegation on Friday approached the Election Commission with a complaint that the BJP has violated Model Code of Conduct by putting up hoardings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi across the country.
The Congress demanded that the poll body ensure the removal of hoardings at petrol pumps, air ports and railway stations.
Talking to media persons after the meeting, party leader RPN Singh said that the Congress had lodged a complaint with the Commission on March 10 that the BJP is violating Model Code of Conduct.
“ The Election Commission has stated that they have issued directions to remove the hoardings. The poll body also said they have sought a report by today evening about how many such hoardings have still not been taken down,” he said.
He alleged that the government is spending taxpayer’s money, earned through excise duty and diesel, in putting up these hoardings.
“The Commission said that if the hoarding has not been removed in some places then it will be removed soon. In this regard, today the Commission will have a review meeting”, he added.
