Road mishaps claim 12 lives in Bihar

At least 12 people were killed in various roads mishaps in Khagaria, Siwan, Begusarai, Saharsa and Vaishali districts during the last 12 hours. According to a report from Khagaria, four people were killed when a truck hit their motorcycle on National Highway 31 near Gauchhari village under Maheshkhunt police station area in the district today.

Police said that four people were killed on the spot when their motorcycle was hit by a speeding truck. The truck driver made good his escape after abandoning his vehicle on the spot.

Police said the deceased had been identified as Dinesh Yadav (55), Abhishek Kumar (18), Sandhya Kumari (11) and Hare Ram Kumar (10), natives of Mathara diara (riverine belt) under Mufassil police station area in the district.  The bodies had been sent for autopsy.

According to a report from Siwan, three youths were killed when a bus hit them near Ghurghat village under Siswan police station area in the district today.

Police said that the youths, natives of Parsa village under Ekma police station were returning to their residences after attending a marriage function when their bike was hit by the speeding bus resulting in their deaths on the spot. The bus driver made good his escape on his vehicle.

According to police, the deceased had been identified as Vijay Kumar (21), Sumant Pandey (20) and Atul Kumar (20). The bodies had been sent for autopsy.

According to a report from Begusarai, two people were killed when they were hit by a jeep near Karichak roundabout under Veerpur police station area in the district last night.

Police said here that the jeep hit them when they were standing on the roadside near Karichak roundabout. Sources said that both the people died on the spot. The jeep driver made good his escape on his vehicle.

Police said the deceased had been identified as Mohammed Badarujjama alias Badru, a naive of Karichak and Deepak Kumar, a native of Babhangama village.

Infuriated over the mishap, local people blocked the main road by keeping bodies near Karichak roundabout. Civil and police authorities were trying to pacify people and lift road blockade.

According to a report from Saharsa, two people were killed when their motorcycle was hit by a vehicle near Badhwa village under Mahishi police station area in Vaishali district late last night.

Police said that Manoj Das (40) and Bajrangi Das (25), natives of Darhar village were killed when their bike was hit by the unidentified vehicle.  The bodies had been handed over to family members after autopsy.

According to a report from Hajipur, a toddy seller was killed when he was hit by a speeding motorcycle near Rani Pokhar village under Mahua police station area in Vaishali district last night.

Police said that the toddy seller, native of Lakshmipur Bakhri village was hit by the motorcycle when he was crossing the road. After the mishap, motorcyclist made good his escape from the spot.
