The Supreme Court of India has rejected the review petition of the accused in Nirbhaya case Akshya on Wednesday. The apex court has also said that there is no scope for any other punishment other than the death sentence in the case which is ‘rarest of the rare case’.
It has become clear that, the accused Akshya, who filed the review petition, cannot escape the gallows. But, the court has allowed him to file the mercy petition before the President of India within a week time only.
