SC to hear petition of CBI against Kolkata Police chief tomorrow

The Supreme Court on Monday said it would hear on Tuesday the petition filed by the CBI, seeking a direction against the Kolkata Police chief, in connection with Sunday’s stand off between the probe agency and the state police.

A two-judge bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi, said, “we would hear the petition tomorrow.”

Solicitor-General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the CBI, sought an urgent hearing in the matter, but the SC said it would hear it on Tuesday.

Appearing for the WB Government, senior advocate AM Singhvi told the top court, “it is a witch hunt by the CBI as the Kolkata CP is a witness and not an accused in the case.”

But, the bench told him to keep the defences of the state government ready on Tuesday when it will hear the case.
