A Massive search operation launched to capture elusive tigeress that killed two farmers recently around Bandipur Tiger Reserve was continued for the fourth consecutive day.
Official sources said that the operation was intensified from Sunday, as the tigress unleashed terror again on Saturday by preying on a newborn elephant calf in the GS Betta range of Bandipur Tiger Reserve.
Following the discovery of the tigress’ pug marks on a farm on Friday, forest officials were hopeful of catching the big cat soon. Exuding confidence, officials had even summoned four Tribals from the Soliga community, who are expert trackers.
T Balachandra, Conservator of Forests and Bandipur Tiger Reserve Director said the fresh camera trap images recorded on Friday and Saturday were of the same tigeress.
Meanwhile more than 150 staff members and six elephants continued to scour the area while a drone provided aerial footage. nearly 200 camera trips have been laid in the area and there are plans to construct watch tower atop of trees to maintain vigil.
The authorities said that they have zeroed on a five km radius. Prohibitory orders under section 144 are in place in the village close to combing operations in order to prevent crowd disturbing operation. (UNI)
