While maintaining that the Congress has been ‘highly responsible’ and ‘restrained’ post the Pulwama attack, party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Tuesday made a veiled attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi , blaming security lapses for the February 14 incident.
In a series of tweets, a day after he counseled party colleague Navjot Singh Siddhu to respect public sentiment, the Rajya Sabha member of Parliament said that while the Congress has been a “highly responsible party”, these lapses needed to be plugged to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
.
“……Congress highly responsible and (applied) restrained post Pulwama. Modi pre-2014 made highly provocative statements including resignation calls for the then PM (Manmohan Singh) at smallest incident,” Singhvi wrote in a series of tweets.
In the tweets, Singhvi also suggested there was huge security lapse “including ridiculous idea of moving 2500 jawans in 78 vehicles at one go and allowing any civilian vehicle on road simultaneously”.
He also maintained ‘intelligence reports’ were ignored and on the overall context, mocked at “56 inch” chest thumping by Modi.
‘Such ‘security lapses’ ought to be plugged to avoid “recurrence”,’Singhvi said.
The Congress party, while condemning the February 14 attack in Pulwama, in which over 40 CRPF jawans were killed, has said that it stands behind the government and security forces on any action they take with regard to the incident. (UNI)
Singhvi’s comments came a day after he targetted his party colleague Navjot Singh Sidhu for his recent comments that the entire nation could not be blamed for the fault of some individuals.
Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh also said the cricketer-turned politician should counsel his friend Imran Khan to hand over perpetrators of terror to India.
In a series of tweets, Digvijaya Singh said, ‘I mean, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, should show the courage and hand over Hafiz Sayeed and Masood Azhar the self confessed perpetrators of terror, to India”.
