New Delhi, Nov 17 (UNI) With considerable improvement witnessed in the air qualituy in the city on Sunday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said a very strong correlation can be seen between stubble burning and the spike in the air pollution in the northern region.
Taking to Twitter on Sunday, Kejriwal said with the beginning of the stubble burning in the month of October, the Air Quality Index began to rise and now when the burning is coming to an end the air quality is also improving.
‘A very strong correlation can be seen between stubble burning and the spike in air pollution in North India. As soon as stubble burning began in the first week of Oct, the AQI started rising. Now that burning is coming to an end, air quality is also improving,’ Delhi CM said taking to twitter.
The air quality that was reeling under the ‘severe’ category since a couple of days in the national capital with average AQI maintaining above the 400 mark , on Sunday improved to ‘poor’ category with an average index value in the afternoon at around 1400 hours recorded at 218.
This improvement is likely to be the result of changes in weather situation and the improvement in the wind speed as said by the weather monitoring agency on Friday.
As said by the CM on Friday, a decision on whether to extend Odd -Even scheme pressed into action in view of curbing air pollution will be taken on Monday after assessing the situation.
Odd- Even was functional between November 4 to 15, while two days relaxation was arranged for to avoid inconvenience to people during the 550 th Gurupurab celebrations of Guru nanak Dev Ji on November 11 and 12.
