Telangana Government has launched 602 Residential Schools during the last five years, Scheduled Castes Development and Minority Welfare Minister Koppula Eshwar informed the Assembly on Saturday. Replying to questions from members during question hour, Mr Eshwar said with an aim to impart quality education to the poor students of Scheduled Castes (SCs) Scheduled Tribes (STs), Backward Class (BC) and Minorities, the state government has decided to set up Residential Schools across the state. He said so far 602 Residential schools have been set up in the state. Of them, 104 are meant for SCs, 52 for STs, 204 for Minorities and 242 for BCs.
A total number of 2,39, 749 students– 43,349 (SC), 18,920 (ST), 90,160 (Minority) and 87,320 (BCs)– were pursuing their studies in the Residential Schools, he said. Stating that an amount of Rs 2243.46 crore was being spent on Residential Schools in every year, Mr Eshwar said 11, 785 staff were recruited so far in the Residential Schools. He said that the competition was very high for getting a seat in the Residential Schools. Stating that the results in Residential Schools are quite encouraging, the Minister claimed and assured that some more would be launched if necessary. (UNI)
