Thousands of people mainly from the Hindustani community jubilantly have taken part in the Jalabhisek of Lord Shiva on the last Monday of the Saka month of Saravana in Dhalai district here this morning. The month of Saravana, according to mythology, is one of the pious months of the Hindu calendar. It is believed that it is the month when Lord Shiva had consumed poison erupted from the Samudra Manthan (exploration of the sea by Gods and Demons) to save the universe and entitled as “Neel Kantha”.
The devotees pour water on the images of Lord Shiva to soothe his pain and sorrows of poison. And in the last Monday of the month of Sravana, the Jalabhisek is treated as more pious. Thousands of Hindustani people including youths, aged persons have participated in the rally. They have walked on bare feet and covered almost 15 kilometres to pour water on Lord Shiva.
Local inhabitant identified as Manoj Kumar has informed, “The occasion is a pious one for us the Hindus. Hence we have gathered here irrespective of any barrier”. The programme has jeered up the unity of local people irrespective of any differences. (UNI)
