The CPI-M Tripura state committee moved Election Commission of India (ECI) seeking assurance of holding general elections in the state under paramilitary forces to ensure voting in fearless situation while urged the commission to send a team to assess the law and order situation well ahead of announcing the poll schedule.
The party secretary Goutam Das told media here today that they sought time from the commission for explaining the law and order situation of Tripura in a letter on Feb 20 last, which alleged the complete break down of rule of law under BJP-IPFT rule.
The letter alleged as many as six leaders of CPI-M were killed and1,115 workers including 157 women were physically assaulted till last month since BJP-IPFT government came in power in March last year. At least 106 CPI-M party offices were burnt down and 377 offices had been ransacked and looted during the period.
“The ruling party sponsored miscreants have forcefully occupied as many as 68 CPI-M party offices and at least 58 offices were locked out in 10 months rule of BJP in Tripura,” Das alleged adding that a terror like situation has been triggered across the state where the voice of opposition parties including the democratic rights were snatched away.
The letter has also mentioned that till January this year at least 146 houses of CPI-M supporters were set on fire, 1352 houses were destroyed and looted 802 houses and 166 shops of CPI-M supporters by the ruling party cadres across the state. Moreover, a large number of ponds of CPI-M supporters were poisoned, rubber estates were set on fire and poultry units were attacked during the period.
He however, complained that police did not registered case in more than 95 percent occasions.
The democratic rights of the oppositions were snatched away by the government. The opposition parties were not allowed to hold political programs, the elected representatives including MLAs was not able to go to their constituencies and villages following continuous threat and intimidation from the ruling party supporters, Das alleged.
Meanwhile, BJP state committee denied the allegations instead charged CPI-M of hatching conspiracy against the government to earn political mileage. Party spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharjee argued, “Had such incidents happened in Tripura at least media, judiciary and the common people would raise the voice and it would be reflected in commoners’ life but the present situation is completely reverse.”
He alleged that all the allegations of violence and atrocities were fabricated and far from the truth. Whenever any political party raised allegation of violence and terror even through social media police have conducted investigation and reported back to the government. More than 90 percent cases were found either false or fall out of family feud and in fight among the groups of CPI-M party supporters.
“During left front rule a section of CPI-M cadres had taken money promising to give loan, offering job or other benefits but after change of guard in the state the victim supporters of their party started retaliating against them, which they tried to explained as atrocity of ruling party,” Bhattacharjee said, adding that the action of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb against the narcotic rackets, which has been the main source of funding of CPI-M, the communist leaders have lost grip on their supporters and now trying to shift the blame on BJP.
This is a futile attempt of CPI-M leaders to divert the attention of people before Loksabha elections, as they don’t have any other option left due to massive development schemes and programs of BJP government but to resort some baseless and malicious charges against the government, he added.
