Agartala, Sep 29 (UNI) Tripura government set up a special court to deal with the cases registered under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 in the state for speedy disposal and time bound action against the accused, said law minister Ratan Lal Nath here today.
He said to dispose the large pendency of cases under POCSO, the state government had set up an exclusive court in Agartala two weeks ago. As many as 342 cases under the act have been pending in eight districts of the state till July this year and more than 20 such cases added in last three months.
“The initiative has been taken for speedy disposal of the long pending cases registered under POCSO Act in the state. The crime against minor girls had a concerning state in past few years but there was no initiative to provide speedy justice to the victims. We have reviewed the situation and set up an exclusive court,” Nath said.
He maintained altogether nine courts of the state were designated as first track court for quick disposal of cases related to women and children. Nath claimed that the crime rate in Tripura has reduced substantially and rate of conviction has a remarkable growth in past 18 months of BJP-IPFT government.
