Slamming the BJP led NDA government, Congress President Rahul Gandhi today said that unique culture and history of all North Eastern states are under attack under in the present regime as it is trying to implement the RSS ideology across the region.
“You have your own culture, language. But now they (BJP government) have started attacking your language and history. Congress party will protect your culture and history,” Mr Gandhi said addressing a public rally in the Khanapara Veterinary Field here.
Taking the credit of stalling the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 in Rajya sabha, Mr Gandhi said,” It’s for the Congress party that NDA government was not able to pass the anti North East bill. We will protect you”.
Mr Gandhi said since 2014 after NDA government came to power special category status of North Eastern states were taken away and assured that the Congress party will restore the status once it is voted to power in 2019.
“We will restore the special category status, implement North East Industrial Policy and solve the problem of flood,” Mr Gandhi said, adding that his party will make Assam a technical education hub of entire region.
Hitting out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his promises, Mr Gandhi said,” I won’t promise you anything which I cannot deliver but when Congress party comes to power in 2019 I give you commitment that we will waive farmers and education loans”.
Counting on achievement of previous Congress led government in the centre, Mr Gandhi said,” We gave you MGNREGA, Right to Food, Right to Education, Right to Information now we will give Minimum Income Guarantee Scheme where money will be directly transferred to your bank account,” Mr Gandhi said, adding that NDA government proposal to give farmers Rs 17 per day is nothing less than a joke on the condition of hapless people.
Mr Gandhi said that after coming to power in Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh and Rajasthan Congress government has kept its promise of waving farmers loan.
“Many said that where was the money to waive loans, but we did it in two days after coming to power in three states,” Mr Gandhi said. (UNI)
