Unnao rape case: Court orders shifting of prime accused Sengar to Tihar jail

District & Sessions Judge Dharmesh Sharma on Monday ordered shifting of Uttar Pradesh MLA, Kuldeep Singh Sengar, prime accused in Unnao rape case, to Tihar jail.

It is alleged that on June 4, 2017, Sengar allegedly raped a minor girl at his residence in Unnao. Another accused Shashi Singh, it is alleged, had lured the victim to the residence of Sengar in search of a job. Sengar was expelled from the Bharatiya Janta Party last week and was sent to Sitapur district jail in Uttar Pradesh.

Central Bureau of Investigation had registered a case of murder after the rape survivor and her advocate were critically injured on July 28 in a truck-car collision near Rae Bareli. Two aunts of the victim were killed in the collision. Sengar and nine others were booked by CBI.

Apex court had directed the trial court to hold trial on daily basis and complete it within 45 days. Today, Judge Sharma after hearing the matter passed an order to shift Sengar to Tihar and adjourned the trial for Wednesday for arguments on charge.
