Veteran film actor L V Sharada passed away in the city on Thursday after prolonged illness. She was 78. She was suffering from breast cancer and died Shankara Hospital today morning.
Sharada, a national award winner, was known for her best performance in ‘Ghaniyamma’, where she played the role of a young widow in a highly traditional Brahmin family. She had won the State award in another national award winning ‘Vamshavruksha’ through which famed actor and dramatist Girish Karnad came to the fore.
She also acted in ‘Bhootayya Na Maga Aiyyu’ directed by well known Kannada film Director Siddalingaiah. Other well known films she acted in were ‘Vatsalya’, ‘Adi Shankaracharya, ‘Madhavacharya’, ‘Nakkala Rajakumari, ‘Ondu Premada Kathe’ and other films.
Sharada was more particular in acting in feature films and had refused many offers to act in commercial cinema.
After she stopped acting in films she was involved in producing Documentaries and directing films. Her documentary on Bangalore lakes ‘Kere Haadu’ had received wide appreciation. She had also produced some documentaries including ‘Mysuru Veene’ for Doordarshan. She was also among the Jury in the International Film Festival held in Tiruvananthapuram.
Sharada was the daughter of well known politician Late L S Venkajirao.
