Water level of Jayakwadi Dam, one of the biggest dams in the state known as the life line of Marathwada region, filled up to 35 per cent of its capacity by Tuesday morning following 154344 heavy inflow of flooded water entering through Nandur Madmeswar weirs. According to the Irrigation Department official sources, at present heavy inflow of 154344 cusec water per second coming from different dams situated at bay of upper Godavari river in Nashik district.
Since July 27, water continues discharging towards Jayakwadi dam in Aurangabad district, which water level was reduced to minus ten per cent due to drought situation. Flooded water from river Pravara also coming towards Jayakwadi dams following Bandardara and Nilwande irrigation project has been filled up in Ahmednagar district.
The present water level of the dam at 0800 hours was 1507.21 feet and 459.398 meter as against its gross storage capacity of 1,522 feet with the capacity of 2171 Mcum of which present a total 1484.583 Mcum water and 746.477 Mcum water as live stock in it which us 34.38 percent, they added.
However, due to heavy flooded water discharge from Nashik district the river Godavari crossed danger levels in Aurangabad district’s more than 20 villages in Gangapur and Vaijapur taluka. SDRF team with the revenue employees and police department are in action to assist the affected people in these villages. A number of affected villagers were evacuated to safer camps. Several villages contact has been snapped due to flood.
As precautionary measures MSEDCL authorities closed down electric supply in marooned villages as the flood entered the transformers at many places, sources added. (UNI)
