In a tragic and heart rending incident a herd of wild elephants trampled to death five people, including two girls and a woman in two separate incidents in Talcher late last night.
Sources said four of a family were killed by wild elephants in Sandha village while they were sleeping on their verandah.
The four have been identified as Kalia Saar his two daughter aged four and 12 and his 25-year-old sister.
The deceased were residents of Pallahara Govindpur area and had come to Talcher to work as daily labourers at a brick kiln.
In another incident an old man was trampled to death in the neighbouring Sathapada village.
Police identified the deceased as one Bramarbar Samal.
In a tweet Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik described the incident as unfortunate and expressed his profound grief over the incident. (UNI)
