Woman commits suicide after being chided for addiction to Tiktok

In a ghastly act, a 24-year-old woman committed suicide by consuming pesticide after being reprimanded by her husband and family members for her addiction to the popular social media application ‘TikTok’ at Seeranatham village under Alathur taluk here on Wednesday.

P.Anitha, mother of two children recorded a video of consuming pesticide and asked her husband to take care of their two children, police said today.

Anitha’s husband Palanivel (30) was working in Singapore and she had been staying in her in-laws house at Seeranatham village.It was alleged that Anitha was addicted to TikTok application and spent most of the time on recording different varieties of videos. She even ignored properly caring two children.

Her husband and family members scolded her for her addiction to the app. Her daughter sustained injury while playing two days ago. Unmindful of the injury sustained by daughter, Anitha spent time on recording new videos.

When Palanivel came to know about the incident, he called on Anitha over phone and warned her severely to disband her addiction to TikTok.
Upset over this, Anitha consumed pesticide. She was rushed to a private hospital at Tiruchirapapli, where she died.Kunnam police have registered a case and are investigating.

It may be recalled that the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on April 3, last prohibited downloading of Tiktok on grounds that the application serves as a platform for the distribution of explicit and inappropriate contents likely to harm children.
By becoming addicted to TikTok and similar applications or cyber games, the future of the youngsters and mind set of the children were spoiled, the court observed.

However, the HC Bench on April 24 vacated its interim order prohibiting downloading and use of Tik Tok after hearing the submissions made by the Chinese company ByteDance that owns TikTok app.
